Most people don’t know that they can begin getting into the cannabis industry before their state even hints at legalization. That’s because when people think about cannabis businesses, they think about selling marijuana.

Most people don’t know that there’s far more to the industry than selling cannabis, in whatever form (flower, oil, edible). If you don’t search out the information, you’d never know you could start a business in the industry without it being legal in your state, because you won’t discover the opportunities until it’s too late. In fact, most of the economic impact of the marijuana industry will be created by businesses who never once come into contact with marijuana, which brings me to my first point.

The Cannabis Industry Is More Than Selling Product

This is the first time in our lifetime we are seeing the creation of a brand new industry before our eyes. That means that all of the infrastructures we take for granted in other products/services haven’t even been conceived for our industry.

Think about opening a box of cereal and finding loose cereal particles directly in contact with the cardboard. No bag to open. No nothing. Well, you take that for granted, but someone (or some business) came up with the packaging for cereal boxes that we’ve all become accustomed to. There’s nothing in the cannabis industry to tell us what the best way is to deliver products. For example, how do package brownies according to regulations? Someone needed to come up with ideas for that, and there still isn’t a ‘standard.’ Maybe you have an idea?

What about new lawyers specializing in cannabis? The laws for 50 states are bound to be complicated, and until it becomes federally legal, we will have to abide by the state’s laws. Are you a lawyer who can begin looking into how to provide services in your state before other’s get in the business.

The industry will see a growth of more than 1,150% for [cannabis] sales over the next four years. – Fortune Magazine

There are countless examples of opportunities such as these. That brings me to my second point.

The Cannabis Industry Is An Industry

It needs support just like any other industry. Just like we’ve come up with new ways to market, manufacture, and deliver foods to retail locations, we will have to do the same thing for the marijuana industry.

As of now, the field is pretty wide open, especially in states that are not THC-friendly. And that brings me to my final point.

Start With Hemp

Hemp is not illegal and it’s the better-behaved sister of cannabis. You can many more options to enter the industry with hemp than you do with cannabis. THC is sexier, but maybe Hemp is the right avenue for you.

This is the best industry to start a business in right now. This kind of accelerated growth in an industry only happens once. ComfyTree teaches people how to be there and ready to serve their communities when legalization eventually occurs. Regardless of which sector you get into, if you do your due diligence, you can’t go wrong.
